Natura Sonora
The lute was imported into Spain from the Middle East, and was originally considered the most celestial of instruments; the central ornamental part of its body, called the rose, followed a specific pattern, symbolizing the four elements and the four seasons with their corresponding moods.
In Still Lifes (or Natura Morta) of the same period, musical instruments were generally included to represent the transient quality of life; and as such, these paintings would be referred to as Vanitas.
The Natura Sonora however, rather than being a Still Life, tries to suggest an abundance of the sound of life in colour, with occasional references to the changing seasons.
De luit werd in Spanje vanuit het Middenoosten geïmporteerd en werd oorspronkelijk als het meest hemelse van alle muziekinstrumenten beschouwd; de roos (het centrale decoratieve deel van de luitkast), volgt een specifiek model en symboliseert de vier elementen (vuur, water, aarde en lucht) en de vier seizoenen met hun overeenkomende stemmingen.
In Stillevens (of Natura Morta) van de zelfde periode, werden muziekinstrumenten vaak afgebeeld om de vergankelijkheid (kortstondigheid) van het Leven te vertegenwoordigen; zulke schilderijen werden Vanitas genoemd.
De Natura Sonora nochtans, in tegenstelling tot een stilleven, tracht de overvloed van het geluid des Levens in kleur voor te stellen, met toevallige referenties naar de veranderende seizoenen.
Natura Sonora
Il liuto fu importato in Spagna dai Mori arabi, e fu considerato originalmente lo strumento piu celeste; la parte ornamentale centrale del corpo, chiamata la rosa, seguiva un motivo specifico, simbolizzando i quattro elementi e le quattro stagioni con i loro umori corrispondenti.
Nella Natura Morta della stessa epoca, gli strumenti musicali s’includevano per rappresentare la qualitá transitoria della vita; tali quadri venivano denominati Vanitas.
La Natura Sonora invece, piuttosto che una Natura Morta, cerca di suggerire una abondanza del suono della vita nei colori, con riferimenti talvolta alle stagioni.
